Whole Soap Berries, commonly known as Soap Nuts, are the naturally dried fruit of the Sapindus mukorossi tree. Our soap berries are offered whole and minimally processed, with the natural seed still intact.

The dried outer fruit is naturally rich in saponins, plant compounds that create a gentle cleansing action when extracted into water. Traditionally, soap berries have been used for washing fabrics, cleansing hair and scalp, and creating simple botanical household cleansers.

Unlike processed soap nut shells, these are the whole dried berries. For best extraction, crack or open the berry and remove the hard inner seed before soaking or simmering the outer shell.

Suggested Uses: Natural laundry preparations, botanical liquid cleansers, DIY hair and scalp washes, botanical rinses, household cleaning preparations, and soapberry extracts.

How to Make a Soapberry Liquid: Crack the berries and remove the hard seeds. Add approximately 5–8 soapberry shells to 2 cups of water. Gently simmer for 15–20 minutes, cool, and strain. Refrigerate and use promptly unless an appropriate preservative system is added.

For Laundry: Crack several berries, remove the seeds, and place the shells in a small reusable cloth or mesh bag. Add directly to the wash. Warm water helps release the naturally occurring saponins. For cold-water washing, pre-soak the shells in warm water first.
