Extracted from the seeds of organic sweet white lupine, Lupine Peptide Powder is designed to uniquely target and prevent photo and chronoaging processes that occur when crucial structural dermal components slacken and weaken over time and with sun overexposure. By acting on the deepest layer of skin -- the dermis -- and its interface with the epidermis, known as the dermal-epidermal junction (DEJ), Lupine Peptide Powder stimulates the production of cohesive components of this complex matrix while protecting key structures from molecular break-down activity. Use of Lupine Peptide Powder, especially as a daily shield against the signs of skin sagging and aging, demonstrates notable tightening and strengthening effects within the dermis, increasing its elastic properties and reviving its youthful resilience.

BACKGROUND, SCIENCE, AND BENEFITS:

The use of white lupine, commonly known as white lupin or field lupine, goes back to the times of antiquity as both a traditionally valued food and medicine. Dating from as early as the Bronze Age, lupine, an annual grass and pulse crop with white flowers and protein-rich seeds of high nutrient density, likely originated in Greece and Egypt. From there, it became important to many Mediterranean civilizations, eventually spreading to Europe and Western Asia. Old World peoples recognized the seeds’ efficacy in treating internal disorders such as worms and sugar imbalance, but also its skin-healing properties for wounds and sores.

Adapted to the climate of modern, western France and utilizing a patented, bio-enzymatic technology, Lupine Peptide Powder, derived directly from lupine seeds, is the end-product of sustainably and locally-sourced agricultural practices benefitting the local economy, in accordance with organic standards. As an eco-designed active concentrate of lupine protein fractions, or peptides, it offers cosmeceutically targeted support and repair to specific layers of the dermal matrix that become vulnerable with UV stress and age-related wear.  Specifically, the dermis is prone to weakening where it joins to the epidermis at the dermal-epidermal junction (DEJ), a complex structure contributing to the tonicity, firmness and tightness of skin. Further, a natural balance normally exists in the dermis between the synthesis of macromolecules (collagens, elastin, proteoglycans) and the damaging effect of inflammatory and degrading enzymes called metalloproteinases (MMPs). When this balance is compromised, skin laxity results. Lupine Peptide Powder’s key constituents arrest these processes in a number of ways: they interact with the DEJ to stimulate connective tissue and collagenous substrate; they inhibit the action of MMPs; and they increase the dynamic activity of fibroblasts, cells which confer “durability” to the framework of skin tissue.

In an ex vivo (human tissue) study, topical application of 0.2% Lupine Peptide Powder stimulated expression of Laminin 5 and Collagen type IV, key components of the DEJ, by at least 31% and 219%, respectively. [CITE] In another similar study, human skin cells exposed to 0.2% of Lupine Peptide Powder were observed to undergo an increase in Collagen type I and Collagen type III by at least 102% and 76%, respectively. [CITE] Playing key roles, these collagen types comprise the majority of the skin’s extracellular matrix (ECM), a network of fibers forming the three-dimensional structure of the dermis. When exposed to UV-irradiated fibroblasts, skin cells treated with Lupine Peptide Powder at 0.2% reduced production of three major types of MMPs (1, 3, and 9) by up to 100% compared to untreated cells. [CITE] And in a model testing real-time mechanical dynamics of the dermis when Lupine Peptide Powder was applied, the contractile capability of fibroblasts was markedly increased, with an ability to reconfigure the matrix. In fact, aged dermal cells were observed to recover their contractile ability up to 62% in comparison to young control dermal cells. [CITE]

These data were able to show that Lupine Peptide Powder in skincare formulations stimulates and inhibits key activities within skin which are essential to the restoration, preservation, and maintenance of skin elasticity, resiliency, and structural integrity, making it an asset to any cutting-edge anti-aging regimen.
