If we were to look at pictures of ourselves from 10 years ago, we would probably notice that our cheeks typically appear more discernable, and our skin also looked a little firmer. So why such a difference between now and then aside from an increase in wrinkle formation? As we age, concentrations of subcutaneous adipose tissue and a specific type of body fat diminish, and our face's contours become less apparent. To treat this problem, following a face-lift procedure, plastic surgeons typically inject adipose tissue into different areas of the face to increase facial contours and make your face appear fuller.
Contour Max consists of oligosaccharides that may stimulate adipogenesis and trigger swelling in adipocytes. The increase in adipose is intended to mimic the effects achieved by surgeons injecting adipose tissue subcutaneously. Efficacy testing indicates that Contour Max may actually stimulate adipocyte differentiation by increasing the expression of mRNA that codes for PPARs-g (a transcription factor involved in adipogenesis). Testing has shown that Contour Max may increase the activity of G3PDH (glycerol-3- phosphate dehydrogenase), which is an enzyme that increases the concentration of triglycerides stored in mature adipocytes.
Testing using 4% of Contour Max in an emulsion reveals that the product may increase adipose tissue density by 25% compared to the placebo. Further studies have shown that Contour Max may improve epidermal elasticity by 63% while increasing tone by 91%. Laser profilometry revealed that it might also decrease the appearance of Crow’s feet by 12% while decreasing fine lines and wrinkles on the cheeks by 10%. A panel of 20 m/f subjects between the ages of 49 and 65 reported that after using 4%Contour Max twice daily for 60 days, their skin felt firmer and more elastic. Subjects also reported a decrease in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
