AHK-Cu is a copper peptide that increases hair follicle size and stimulates scalp blood flow, both of which are necessary for new hair growth. Used as an ingredient in haircare, AHK-Cu helps maintain healthy hair and thickness by blocking the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the primary culprit in male and female baldness, protecting hair follicles from the stress that might lead to balding. The follicles can’t produce healthy hair without the oxygen and nutrients carried by the blood. The blood flow reduction that occurs with aging is a significant factor in hair falling out. AHK-Cu promotes healthy blood flow to the scalp by stimulating the capillaries under the scalp, which in turn helps to nourish hair follicles. Studies have shown that AHK-Cu may prolong the hair-growing phase, known as anagen, which typically lasts between three and five years.

AHK-Cu is also used as a skincare ingredient to reconstruct and repair skin by activating fibroblast and endothelial cell production, which are responsible for the promotion of collagen and elastin, two complex molecules that influence skin tone, texture, and flexibility. AHK-Cu also helps to minimize muscle contractions, inhibiting the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. While AHK-Cu can be used in skin-care, it is generally used more for both scalp and hair care.

Liposomes are the latest nano-scale technology for the encapsulation of cosmetic actives. This technology uses bilayer lipids(fats) to encapsulate active ingredients and protect them until the point of delivery into the target cell. The lipids used are extremely biocompatible with cell walls allowing them to bond to and release the active ingredient directly into the cells.
