Calcium Bentonite Clay - This consists of aged volcanic ash also known as “Pascalite.” The name comes from the largest known deposit of Calcium bentonite clay located in Big Horn, Montana. It is an odorless grey/cream color with an almost soft, very fine consistency. Unlike some other clays, it doesn’t stain and is easy to work with in beauty and natural remedy recipes. Healing clays like bentonite have a high concentration of minerals including silica, calcium, magnesium, sodium, iron, and potassium. It also absorbs and removes toxins, heavy metals, impurities, and chemicals. Because of this, bentonite clay is a common ingredient in detox and cleansing products.

Appearance: Odorless grey/cream color powder.
Application: Bentonite Clay is commonly used in the preparation of facial masks, mud masks, body wraps, moisturizers, deodorants, sunscreens, and makeup. Due to its swelling and colloidal properties, it adds thickness and body to emulsions while helping to disperse ingredients such as colorants. Added to water-based formulations, Bentonite Clay helps prevents watery or runny consistencies. It is also added to powder formulations to prevent cakiness or boost skin coverage (in the case of makeup). On its own, the clay can be used as a bath powder to soothe and rejuvenate the skin.
Basic Face Mask Recipe: Mix bentonite clay powder with water to make a thick paste. Apply to the areas of skin that are prone to oil or acne. Leave the mask on for 20 minutes and rinse thoroughly. Repeat two or three times per week.
